Hey! Techcore here with Day 4 of FanEXPO’s hall photos.
This review aired on Fresh Air is Over-Rated #32 back on September 2nd, 2009!
Check out this footage of the God of War: Origins Collection. If you didn’t already know it brings over the 2 PSP games over to a PS3 Blu-ray disc. It looks pretty fantastic, you can check out more details over at the PlayStation blog.
Developer Tetsuya Mizuguchi hit YouTube today, to let everyone know that his game Child of Eden will release on the PS3, September 27th. It’ll support the Move controller and also have 3DTV support.
Gotham City Imposters just released a new trailer showcasing the comical character customization. The concept of the game still confuses me a bit, but it’s looking fairly good.
The Counter-Strike: Global Offensive rumors were both started and confirmed overnight it seems. Valve said that “CS: GO features new maps, characters, and weapons and delivers updated versions of the classic CS content (de_dust, etc.). In addition, CS: GO will introduce new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, and more.” The game is slated to hit shelves in early 2012, and will be available for PC, 360 and PS3. “Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999,” Valve spokesman Doug Lombardi said in today’s announcement. “For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise. CS: GO promises to expand on CS‘ award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next gen consoles and the Mac.”
Minecraft creator Markus “Notch” Persson is getting hitched today. In celebration, everyone who buys the game over the weekend will receive another copy to gift to a buddy or significant other. You can go buy a copy for $15 over at their site.
If you want to play the full Rage experience, you’re going to have to buy it new! Yes, that’s right, id is (sorta) hopping on the “online pass” bandwagon. They’ve gone a different way with it though, there will be a sewer system in the game available to only those who purchase it new. No idea how it will work really…
For the first time ever, children were invited to participate at this year’s DefCon, the hacking conference in Las Vegas. A 10 year-old girl scout named CyFi, made headlines having tinkered with an un-named social game. She was tired of having to wait for in-game progression, so she discovered that you can play with the wifi and system clock settings to advance quicker. This might not be a true “hack”, but at ten years old, I know I would of just cried and lived with it.
The best game ever for the Kinect just got revealed by Tecmo Koei. You can go check it out here. By the way, yes, I was being sarcastic. Who the hell would do that?
A Sony distribution in Enfield, UK has been ravaged and burnt down due to the riots in London. Some eye-witnesses have said some people made off with game consoles and other Sony products. The official word from SCE is that this will not affect their gaming deliveries and activities in Europe.
If you’re interested in Batman: Gotham City Imposters (and even if you aren’t) you can go sign up for the closed beta here. It’s free, so why not try it out.
EA announced 2 new iOS titles today, the Apple devices will be getting ports of Battlefield 3 and Theme Park. I really liked Bad Company 2 on the iOS, it fixed the control issues I have with every FPS on the system.
THQ has cut 200 jobs, resulting in the end of the MX vs. ATV and de Blob series. THQ announced today that the company will increase “emphasis on high potential categories” at its five internal development studios and reduce its “focus on kids and movie-based licensed titles for consoles.” Things were looking good at THQ, but I guess they’re on a down swing right now.
We’ve got our first look at Tommy in Prey 2 (pictured), straight from their Facebook page. Tommy was the main character in the original game, he won’t be reprising his starring role, but that doesn’t mean he won’t participate in any way. The game developed by Human Head Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks, is due out in March of 2012.
Twisted Metal got delayed today to 2012, it was originally scheduled for October 4th, 2011. David Jaffe, the game’s creator had this to say on the PlayStation blog: “If we shipped Twisted Metal tomorrow-–going off the response from folks who have played it—I assure you, it would never be a bad game. Not even close. But we’re aiming for a heck of a lot more than that! With Twisted Metal we plan to ship a multiplayer classic. We plan to ship the best Twisted Metal ever made. We plan to convert a lot of folks who think vehicle combat is a relic best left to 90’s nostalgia. And we plan to explode the belief that the only relevant kind of shooter is a first person one (or a 3rd person one, where you play a human… with a tee shirt not all the way tucked in …). Most importantly, we plan on treating you – the kind folks who play our game (and pay our bills) – like the VIPs that you are. You only deserve our best and we appreciate your understanding as we take a little more time to guarantee that our best is what we deliver”.
You can get the Bastion soundtrack right now on Super Giant Games’ site. It’s available to stream, or download for $10, you can also get it on a compact disc for $15. In more Bastion news, the PC version got a release date of August 16th on Steam for $15. If you’re not a fan of Steam, looks like you’ll have to wait an unspecified amount of time.
Minecraft is still in beta but it has managed to sell 3 million copies. That’s quite the feat for any game, but for a game that’s not even officially out yet, that’s very impressive.
We’ve discussed this on Fresh Air is Over-Rated before, but for some reason it seems to be reappearing on other blogs. So let’s reiterate, EA has released a list of digital retailers that Battlefield 3 will be available on, and that list did not contain Steam. There’s no word if it’ll ever come to Steam, so don’t count on it yet.
Sony revealed PSN PLAY today, it’s very much like the Summer of Arcade on the 360. There are 4 games you can buy for $15 each, (Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online Edition, The Baconing, BloodRayne: Betrayal and Renegade Ops) they go on sale starting August 23rd. If you purchase all of them (and you’re above 18 years of age) you’ll receive Payday: The Heist a $20 value, for free. On top of all this, if you’re a PSN+ subscriber you’ll get 20% off everything. The value just keeps coming, if you buy all of these games. You get DLC for free, and if you pre-order it all, you get XMB themes.
Nolan North, the voice of Drake in Uncharted and everyone else in every other game, will voice the Penguin in Arkham City. Crazy right?
For some reason Bethesda is suing Notch over his next game entitled Scrolls. The title is a card-battling game, so I’m as baffled as the next person as to why they’d do this. Notch has said that this is simply lawyers-being-lawyers and is still looking forward to playing Prey 2.
