This week we talk about IGN Pro League tech and assets sold To Blizzard, The Angry Video Game Nerd gets his own game, along with a Gears of War: Judgment review and much more.
The Gamescom news shit storm continues today! I’ll do like I did for yesterday and just post all the trailers together. Rachet & Clank: All 4 One, Need For Speed: The Run, WildStar, PS Vita LittleBigPlanet, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Dead Rising 2 Off The Record, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, X-Men: Destiny, Prototype 2, Goldeneye 007: Reloaded, Guild Wars 2 and Sonic Generations.
A new screen for Borderlands 2 has been released to the public, it shows off what the gameplay might look like, stunning photo!
A new Wii has been announced, it’s been stripped of GameCube backwards compatibility. I guess it’s for Nintendo to save money, whatever the case may be, there’s no plans for it coming to North America (Europe region only). A photo has been leaked though, and seems like it’ll be bundled with Wii Sports and Wii Party.
Tekken 3D Prime Edition got unveiled at Gamescom, it’s coming to the 3DS (d’uh) and will come packaged with the Tekken: Vengeance CG movie on the actual game cart. No word on whether or not the movie will be view-able in 3D.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword got a firm release date today, mark your calenders for November 20th Wii fans!
Originally announced as a PlayStation exclusive, Silent Hill: HD Collection is also making it’s way onto the Xbox 360. It features HD versions of Silent Hill 2 and 3 with new voice acting and Achievements and Trophies.
A new patch for Warcraft: Cataclysm is coming that will allow you to battle Deathwing. It will also include three new five-player dungeons, a new raid and some cool new Ethereal-powered abilities.
Yesterday’s PS3 price-drop of $249 has also reduced the system’s 320gb variety. It’s already been spotted on Amazon and Newegg, it comes bundled with inFAMOUS 2, totally worth it in my opinion.
Blizzard game director Jay Wilson said during a Gamescom press conference today, that he expects the Diablo III beta to hit in September, if not sooner. The game still has no official release date.
Minecraft creator Markus “Notch” Persson has challenged Bethesda to a 3v3 Quake match, after he got handed papers telling him to not use the Scrolls name. Bethesda is claiming that the name is too similar to their Elder’s Scrolls title. In any case, if Notch wins, he wants them to drop the lawsuit and if Bethesda wins he’ll switch the name. Good stuff Notch, gotta love him.
Gabe Newell spoke about the Half-Life 2: Episode 3 protesters that were outside his Valve offices a few weeks ago, while he was at Gamescom. “They wanted to know when Episode Three was coming out,” Gabe said. “I said ‘I can’t tell you.’ And they were, like, ‘Okay…’ We then asked them how many sodas they had, they only had two, so we sent them some sodas and some pizza.” The group also got a tour of Valve’s offices and some hands-on time with Dota 2. “We needed people to test,” he explained. “The cops showed up after someone else in the building called the police. He rode up on his Segway, but it turns out [the cop] was a big Half-Life fan. So he completely understood where they were coming from and didn’t chase them off.” His last words about it were “We miss them,” funny stuff Mr. Newell.
Community manager for Infinity Ward, Robert Bowling confirmed that Modern Warfare 3 will indeed have support for dedicated servers on the PC. That’s great news for the competitive scene, as it was sorely missed in the last title.
Just Dance 3 will feature a mode called, “just create”. It will allow you to record your moves and challenge your friends to re-create them. Not only that, you’ll be able to also share your moves on Facebook. There’s no lack of dancing videos on Youtube, so this is just Ubisoft’s way to streamline the process. I’m not exactly sure how it’ll work, but it will be fun to see that feature in action when the game comes out on October 11th.
The game once known as True Crime: Hong Kong, cancelled by Activision, is getting resurrected by Square Enix. It won’t be called True Crime but Square Enix’s London Studio will be picking up the development. General manager Lee Singleton said it was “a fantastic opportunity to create a new and unique franchise which gamers will come to know and love for years to come.” That remains to be seen, we all know games get cancelled and plans for a series don’t always pan out.
Ragnarok Online has gone offline for an iOS title called Ragnarok Violet. It’s already out in Japan and will be released in North America on Friday, for free! It’s free because much like the MMORPG, it’ll support in-app purchases. You can check out the Youtube video here.
Warner Bros. announced that it’ll be bringing Lollipop Chainsaw to our side of the pond. If you haven’t seen our coverage of the game on FAIOR, it’s Suda 51 and Shinji Mikami’s next project after Shadows of the Damned. Expect weird Japanese stuff, the screenshots released already show off a short skirted, schoolgirl’s panties. You can already hear it screaming out: “Hey look at me, I’m Japanese.”
Capcom announced at Evo, that Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition is getting a 2012 version. No word on whether the update will be free or not. We can only hope that it will be, people are already unhappy about Megaman Legends 3 and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 so it’d be nice to see them give it out. Talking about Evo, the fighting game tournament wrapped up this weekend and it was easily the best one. Perfectlegend destroyed the competition with Kung Lao on Mortal Kombat, Viscant wrecked MvC3 while Fuudo came out of no where to win SSF4:AE (Big ups to I Am Latif for cleaning up Daigo and Poongko though! Mad respect). The most shocking events of the tourney included, Noah, the 8-year-old boy wonder, who finished top 48 in MvC3. Justin Wong not making the finals nor did Daigo, infact they both got perfected in their game of choice, which was surreal.
Blizzard will let you sell your Diablo III loot for real money! Weird right? I thought Blizzard was up-tight about that stuff. They also mentioned that mods will be outright banned, you can’t even do it for fun.
There’s a rumor out there that Mirror’s Edge 2 will be on the Frostbite 2 Engine, the very same engine that powers our beloved Battlefield 3. This would not be a surprise, as the first ME ran on DICE’s original Frostbite engine. What’s surprising is that there’s a second Mirror’s Edge in development! The first one did terribly in sales, neither did it get superb reviews.
The FemShep for Mass Effect 3 has been chosen by the Facebook fans. The blonde came out on top in a controversial decision. The game is not about good looking people, nor is FemShep, she is all about action, so it was a weird way for EA to decide her look. (FemShep FOUR, guys! COME ON. – Techcore)
