Wildmatt was joined by guest hosts Adem Stiner and Mac19pm as they discussed the news such as 3DS XL, Smash Bros, Seth Killian’s exit, Starcraft on Wii U & more. We also had a top 10 about the games that have aged gracefully.
On this week’s show we talk about E.X. Troopers, more strange/dumb crimes, SFxT is broken, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, 38 Studios woes, Activision vs. Ex-Infinity Ward and more! We also did our top 10 graphics that haven’t aged well and took calls to wrap up the episode.
TGS is officially starting tomorrow, but Nintendo and Sony both had press conferences and we’ll discuss them here.
Nintendo basically confirmed and showed off the new 3DS expansion disc thing, whatever they call it. It’s just a 2nd analog stick attachment for the 3DS we’ve discussed previously on the site. The rumors of them revealing a new 3DS with that 2nd analog stick didn’t come through, but I’m still expecting them to do that, but when, that still remains the question. They decided to focus on software instead which was definitely the better choice, lots of people are still pissed about the price-drop. They showed off Paper Mario, Mario Tennis, Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem, Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land amongst others.
The Sony conference focuses on the PSVita, they revealed some specs, some new games, and new trailers. They announced the Japanese date of release as December 17th. A bunch of HD re-releases are also coming to the Vita such as Konami’s Metal Gear Solid HD and Zone of the Enders HD, Sony revealed Final Fantasy X is coming to both the handheld and the PS3. Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Katamari Damacy, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Street Fighter X Tekken, Lord of the Apocalypse and Armies of Hell are all coming to the Vita. As for the specs, it’ll boast a ton of RAM and a 4-core A9 CPU, the battery life is expected to be 3 to 5 hours of gameplay and takes 2 hours to charge. That’s about even with the 3DS, although the 3DS takes about 3.5 hours to charge fully. You can check out the full specs at Destructoid.
The first footage of Dead or Alive 5 got released today, it looks pretty alright, that’s definitely DOA.
Tecmo had another trailer in the form of Ninja Gaiden 3. Looks like the storyline for the title is going completely off the rails! I really loved the first game, the 2nd was also great, so I’m looking foward to this.
Street Fighter X Tekken has a TGS trailer out that showcases some new features such as “Pandora”. The feature allows you to sacrifice your tag partner for a “short, but powerful, boost in strength” and a weird character color change. They also revealed a 4 player scramble mode, which let’s everyone duke it out all at once or you can also choose to play the standard tag game 4 players. Lastly, the trailer shows off a new training mode called briefing that allows you to take it online, a nice way to train that should of been added to SF4 a long time ago.
Rockstar decided to release a Max Payne 3 trailer, why’d they wait this long, I’m not sure. In any case, it looks nice, the original voice actor does reprise his role and it’s running off a modified RAGE engine. Now I know it’s been awhile but that isn’t the id Tech 5 engine, that’s Rockstar’s engine used in GTAIV. I’m definitely interested to see how this turns out, without Remedy behind the scenes working on it.
I got to play Minecraft 1.8 for a bit, which is officially out now. The new lighting looks great, it’s the first thing you’ll notice. The 2nd thing I noticed were the new alien type things that disappear and appear out of no where. I’m not totally sure how I feel about this new update, but I’m sure it’ll grow on me with time.
Wildmatt and TheCro play one of the best fighting games of all time, Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike. At the time of release, people were still content with playing the 2nd SF and didn’t quite get SF3. The new fighting style seemed more complicated. From the parrying system, multiple supers, and the disappearance of beloved characters. If you were one of the people who didn’t like this game for those reasons, SF4 retained much of what made 3 awesome, but with the characters from 2. Check this game out if you haven’t, it’s coming to PSN and XBLA this month.
Tekken X Street Fighter has been made official… Really there’s not much I can say that you don’t know already. There’s going to be 2 games, one by Capcom based on the Street Fighter 4 engine and the one I’m really excited about, the Namco version built upon Tekken. I’ve always wondered how the Street Fighter characters would play in full 3D, in a game like Tekken. Still no date, and seems like it won’t be anytime soon, my guess 2012.
This leaked early a couple days ago, but Capcom have just made it official at Comic-Con.
I usually don’t swear in my posts, but god damn it this deserves it. The downloadable prologue to Dead Rising 2, called Case Zero will cost $5. I know right? A full 3D game for only $5, it’s crazy! Keep in mind though, if you own a PS3, this is XBLA exclusive. Oh well.
We are thrilled to finally be able to announce Mega Man Universe, this game will break the mold and challenge the conventional wisdom of what a Mega Man game can be. When fans finally get to see it, I believe they’ll envision their most far-out Mega Man dreams coming true.
This is what Kenji Inafune, creator of Mega Man had to say. Right now these are the only details, along with the video and that it will be on XBLA and PSN. We’ll find out more at next week’s Comic-Con.
Team Spooky’s website is running a rumor that MvC3 will be made official by Capcom in May. If you’re unfamiliar with Spooky, they released the entire list for the new additions in Super Street Fighter 4 months in advance. This lends alot of credibility to the rumor but I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
Well we’ve heard that Megaman 9 has been coming for a while now, and I being a big Megaman fan was extremely excited. Capcom’s been doing some extraordinary things with their old IPs as of late and I was hoping for the same greatness with good old Megaman.
Today however, I learnt that all my excitement was for nothing as MM9 is simply a new NES game being released for Nintendo’s WiiWare. Is this a bad thing? Not really but I was expecting more. For the record I do not own a Wii, and as big of a Megaman fan that I am, this will not get me to rush out and get one.
Look at Bionic Commando, it has a remake of the original NES game on Xbox Live Arcade and the Playstation Store entitled Rearmed. That within itself is fantastic for fans of the series but not only are we getting a remake but also a full blown title coming to the 360 and PS3.
Commando also got a new game, Wolf of the Battlefield which is the 3rd in the series. It’s not mind blowing or anything, but it’s a fun title none the less.
Street Fighter is another example of the on-going Capcom old-school revival. We’re getting an updated Super Street Fighter II: Turbo, who’s new title is even longer so let’s abbreviate it to SSFII:THDR. It’s getting sweet new HD graphics and also a balance update, however the old school game is in there as well. If that wasn’t awesome enough, Street Fighter 4 is set to release this year and looks fantastic.
For some odd reason though, they decided to do the total opposite with Megaman 9 and it saddens me. Granted that the previous Megaman games might not of been the best, but this was a chance to reset Megaman, not doing any off-shoot series but the classic original Megaman which we haven’t seen since the PS1 days in 1997.
I don’t recall ever seeing a series going backwards, why not use the graphics from MM8? Hell they even made an updated Megaman 1 on the PSP, why not use it’s engine to make the 9th?
Magma Man, Galaxy Man, Jewel Man, Concrete Man, Hornet Man, Plug Man, Tornado Man and Splash Woman are the rumored boss battles, nothing’s confirmed as of yet. The boss battles in my opinion are what’s gonna make or break this game. The scans don’t look great but really do we need them to? We know exactly what to expect in terms of an old school 8-bit Megaman game.
There seems to be a little bit more in terms of the gameplay, they can’t leave it untouched after all. It appears that there’s some new platforms and the whatnots, wow really? That’s all? Let’s hope it’s not for everyone’s sake.
I’m gonna end this by saying that Capcom have really limited themselves in terms of sales. Sure the Wii has a huge install base already, but not all of them buy WiiWare games and not all their fans own one either. The only way I’ll be able to play this is if someone hacks it, makes a ROM out of it and releases it on the net.
Well okay it’s been confirmed for the XBLA and PSN, so at least I can get it now and enjoy those sweet new tunes!
