I never owned a Game Gear, so the way I got to play this game was a setup me and my friend had. I would buy him a game I wanted, and he would buy a Game Boy game he wanted. Funny enough we both got a Mega Man game during this exchange and a good transaction it was. Not only did I get to play this weird mish-mash of Mega Man 4 & 5, but then I had a sweet Game Boy title to call my own. Funny what we used to do to play.
Seriously next to nothing happened today, so I’ll just talk about the new releases of the week and show you this video.
This is a video of Megaman getting a portal gun, with hilarious results, watch it!
Now for the new releases of the week, not much is coming out. Regardless, I must deliver something.
Hidden Mysteries: Royal Family Secrets (PC)
Spy Kids: All the Time in the World (DS)
The Mysterious Case of Dr. Jekell and Mr. Hyde (DS)
Puzzler World 2 (DS)
Fruit Ninja Kinect (XBLA)
Ethernal Destiny (Web)
Asteroid Tower Defense (Android)
So yeah, an extremely slow news day, not even the new releases are worth discussing. Maybe Fruit Ninja Kinect, which looks like a lot of fun, but I won’t go into it.
We are thrilled to finally be able to announce Mega Man Universe, this game will break the mold and challenge the conventional wisdom of what a Mega Man game can be. When fans finally get to see it, I believe they’ll envision their most far-out Mega Man dreams coming true.
This is what Kenji Inafune, creator of Mega Man had to say. Right now these are the only details, along with the video and that it will be on XBLA and PSN. We’ll find out more at next week’s Comic-Con.
Oh and guess what? It’s coming to Xbox Live Arcade and the Playstation store… again.
Yeah, o.k. well let’s hope this is the last update on this old school NES 8-bit game. We posted an update that said the game was coming to Xbox Live Arcade and the Playstation Store, well turned out that’s untrue.
So it’s a Wiiware exclusive but now Capcom have announced it’s coming out in September for 1000 Wii points or $10.
Well we’ve heard that Megaman 9 has been coming for a while now, and I being a big Megaman fan was extremely excited. Capcom’s been doing some extraordinary things with their old IPs as of late and I was hoping for the same greatness with good old Megaman.
Today however, I learnt that all my excitement was for nothing as MM9 is simply a new NES game being released for Nintendo’s WiiWare. Is this a bad thing? Not really but I was expecting more. For the record I do not own a Wii, and as big of a Megaman fan that I am, this will not get me to rush out and get one.
Look at Bionic Commando, it has a remake of the original NES game on Xbox Live Arcade and the Playstation Store entitled Rearmed. That within itself is fantastic for fans of the series but not only are we getting a remake but also a full blown title coming to the 360 and PS3.
Commando also got a new game, Wolf of the Battlefield which is the 3rd in the series. It’s not mind blowing or anything, but it’s a fun title none the less.
Street Fighter is another example of the on-going Capcom old-school revival. We’re getting an updated Super Street Fighter II: Turbo, who’s new title is even longer so let’s abbreviate it to SSFII:THDR. It’s getting sweet new HD graphics and also a balance update, however the old school game is in there as well. If that wasn’t awesome enough, Street Fighter 4 is set to release this year and looks fantastic.
For some odd reason though, they decided to do the total opposite with Megaman 9 and it saddens me. Granted that the previous Megaman games might not of been the best, but this was a chance to reset Megaman, not doing any off-shoot series but the classic original Megaman which we haven’t seen since the PS1 days in 1997.
I don’t recall ever seeing a series going backwards, why not use the graphics from MM8? Hell they even made an updated Megaman 1 on the PSP, why not use it’s engine to make the 9th?
Magma Man, Galaxy Man, Jewel Man, Concrete Man, Hornet Man, Plug Man, Tornado Man and Splash Woman are the rumored boss battles, nothing’s confirmed as of yet. The boss battles in my opinion are what’s gonna make or break this game. The scans don’t look great but really do we need them to? We know exactly what to expect in terms of an old school 8-bit Megaman game.
There seems to be a little bit more in terms of the gameplay, they can’t leave it untouched after all. It appears that there’s some new platforms and the whatnots, wow really? That’s all? Let’s hope it’s not for everyone’s sake.
I’m gonna end this by saying that Capcom have really limited themselves in terms of sales. Sure the Wii has a huge install base already, but not all of them buy WiiWare games and not all their fans own one either. The only way I’ll be able to play this is if someone hacks it, makes a ROM out of it and releases it on the net.
Well okay it’s been confirmed for the XBLA and PSN, so at least I can get it now and enjoy those sweet new tunes!
